To do this outing you must hire the services in a tourist agency.
The guide will call on you where indicated and will transfer you to Establecimiento La Petrona, from where this two or three hour expedition leaves. |
This is a typical Patagonian estancia with a vegetable garden, cattle breeding and shepperding fields as well as tourist activities in the estancia.
While the guide prepares the horses, you will be served some "mates" and some "tortas fritas" in a friendly atmosphere typical of the countryside. |
You will be able to observe some shearing practice with big scissors and learn about the different techniques applied to improve the quality of the wool.
Once the horses are saddled you start your itinerary through steep trails while you are told about the plants and fowl in the area.
From the top of the hill you can see the mountain range around and the cask of the estancia while you feel the wind of Patagonia in your skin. |
Along your ride you will see Cerro Colorado, Cerro Nahuel Pan, Cerro de la Cruz and the ranges of mounts Situación and Esquel with their rocky walls and eternal snow on their peaks.
The vegetation is that of the ecotone, a transition ecosystem where the valdivian region meets with the patagonian steppe.
You will ride through calafate bushes and observe a green swamp where cattle graze. |
|
You will ride through the prairie where cattle graze, and then through a wet zone. |
You will be filled with awe at the silence, peace and beauty of nature around you.
Back in the cask you will set the horses free in their corrals and maybe give them some water.
After this, you will be taken back to town, feeling that something has changed in you.
These excursions can be hired all day and include lunch and tea in the estancia with typical Patagonian dishes. |
