Cajón Negro

    The word "cajón" means box. In this case in reference to a boxlike valley. This valley can be reached from several starting points. It is advisable to plan it beforehand with your guide.
    In order to reach this valley you must estimate between 3 to 4 hours walk. It is best to do it in the summer or the beginning of fall. During the fall the foliage turns into different shades of yellow and red and this makes it extra attractive.
    Along the way you will hear the sound of water from the Arroyo Las Piedritas that forms the Inacayal Waterfall and continues towards Lake Nahuel Huapi. You will also come across innumerable streams and you will see a variety of native birds. The one you will see frantically at work is the red headed southern woodpecker.

As you climb it is very possible that you will encounter one or two Condors. These kings of the Andes may measure up to 3 meters from wing tip to wing tip and they perform elegant circular flights taking advantage of the thermal currents that usually exist in the valleys. You may also encounter puma and fox tracks.

You will also notice that vegetation is beginning to grow scarce and closer to the ground. This is because you are at 1.400 to 1.600 meters above sea level.
Once you reach the valley, you will be surrounded by Mount Inacayal (1.840 Mts.), Mount Belvedere (1.685 Mts.) and Filo Belvedere (1.685 Mts.). You can choose your camping site near a stream, and then explore the surroundings.
