Cucao and Pacific Ocean Español
A good possibility to see the Pacific Ocean is to cross this wonderful natural pass formed by two lakes: Huillinco and Cucao.
Taking Castro as a start point, on km. 24 of the Panamerican route there is a turning to Huillinco, where plantations and old houses are the mute exponents of regional colonization.

In kilometer 33 is lake Huillinco, with a population of 336 inhabitants, a beach, inn and lodges. Its maximum depth does not reach seventy meters. The road goes on skirting lake Cucao, not deeper than 20 meters.
They both have bridges with wooden pillars made with the authentic Chilotan technique.
In kilometer 58 appears Cucao, an old aboriginal village demolished during the tidal wave occurred in 1960. The rainforest and the 20 km. long white sand beach give a frame to this place that can be travelled by on horses hired on the beach.

If we take the road on the outlet of the lake, we get to Chiloé National Park, with cabins and camping sites, natural interpretation trails and a predominance of arrayanes in an evergreen rainforest.
