DAY 3
After a breakfast rich in nutrients, glucids and amino acids, which will add more energy to our organism, we will get ready to make the fourth landing or disembarkation.
During the previous night, M/V “Ushuaia” will have cruised from Port Cook to the Observatory Island, location of the homonymous Lighthouse since 1904. |
 |
As the island relief is very sheer, we will have a look of the Lighthouse from the zodiacs. The zodiac driver will skirt the island at full speed and we will have the opportunity to watch its many native birds.
We will pass by a penguin colony where we will get beautiful pictures of these wonderful birds. The cruise will go on up to the island eastern area, where we will have the chance to watch a colony of Southern American fur seals.
We shall listen attentively to the guide’s explanation who will teach us everything on the anatomy, reproduction, breathing and habitat of these animals.
After watching all the species that will show up in front of our eyes and taking a few pictures of the Lighthouse at a distance, we will return to the ship to continue with the expedition. |
 |
From Observatory Island, Antarpply Expedition’s Vessel will head towards the southeast up to Port Hoppner, a site of matchless beauty, where we will carry out the fifth landing of this unforgettable voyage.
The oceanographic ship will stop at San Antonio Bay, to pull down the inflatable boats. Here it is very important that you put on your life jacket and seize the safety rails, since it is highly possible that the sea is rougher than usual.
We will surf the big waves of the Atlantic Ocean and enter the external side of Port Hoppner that will lead us to its inner Bay. The zodiac will move very slowly so that you can have a closer look of a magnificent cascade pouring from a hidden lagoon. The cascade shows its splendor to the visitors’ senses and is captured in a photograph.
On the coast, the exuberant quantity of oysters lying on the sides of the shore will call our attention. After going for a ride in the zodiacs and observing ample hilly valleys, with extensive grasslands, we will return to the ship. |
 |
On the last night aboard the M/V “Ushuaia”, after dinner, we will enjoy a lecture given by the vessel guides, who will point out the main aspects of the exotic ecosystem we have visited.
Moments of recreation also become an independent chapter of this experience, in which day by day the group of expeditionary members will grow stronger because of the time shared together.
We will be bidding farewell to the mysterious Staten Island, in front of which shores countless shipwrecks experienced by the first pioneers of these seas took place during the XIXth and XXth centuries.
During the night, Antarpply vessel will cross Le Maire Strait one more time. The following morning we will visit the famous penguin colony on Hammer Island and the most ancient estancia in Tierra del Fuego, when we call in at Port Harberton. |
