In San Martín de los Andes, you can get to know history in a different way - visiting the original Museum of Argentine Licence Plates in Abedules blind alley. |
To visit this original place you must make an appoitment with Architect Daniel Rubinger, the will kindly show you his fabulous collection of plates.
Departing from San Martín Square, you must turn left onto Teniente Coronel Pérez Street, walk three blocks and a half and turn right onto Abedules blind alley. Then walk fifty meters until the end of the alley and you will find The Museum of Plates.
The entrance to the museum is free and it is really worth visiting. You access through the underground floor, which is lightened by zenithal light creating an intimate atmosphere ideal to talk, discover new things and be amazed by what you find there. |

You will find hundreds of Plates in excellent conditions ordered by regions, provinces, cities and towns of Argentina. A quick glance is enough to realize how passionate the owner was to order these plates.
While listening to Daniel talk about the different plates, you will discover that from a simple description of a plate , you can know the history of some cities or towns from the XX Century.
Some of them have disappeared, some were forgotten but they still live in the stories and in the objects you can admire. |
This is a collection of official, diplomatic, and regular plates of cars, motorcycles and even carriages.
Among the most outstanding plates, there is one of Neuquén Province with an image of Lanín Volcano, Lake Huechulafquen and the emblematic Araucaria with the identification of official car number 100. There is also a graphic plate with a relief of Tilcara – Jujuy – dating from 1960, as well as other plates from legendary towns such as San Martín de las Escobas or Susana. |

In another sector of the museum there is a display of international plates among which you will be attracted by the collection from Belgium made up of glazed plates from 1905 to 1950.
Old motorcycles lovers will be able to contemplate four completely original not restored Harley Davidson Motos from 1918 to 1930 models 500 cc, 1000 cc and 1200 cc.
Another important attraction is a Swiss motorcycle engine that used a leather drive belt dating from 1914, which belonged to a factory called Motoreve.
Adding up to this exotic tour, you will observe a collection of old bottles of beer from 1870 to 1900 and a collection of old trains, cars and motos lights in perfect conditions. |
