The View from Arrayán Vantage Point

The Arrayán vantage point is one of the most beautiful and best located panoramic sites in the city. Easily accessed and close to the downtown area, it features excellent views of town and Lake Lácar.

At any season, San Martín de los Andes shows off its natural sceneries and its picturesque urban architecture, which gives ground for it being considered one of the most beautiful cities in Patagonia. The mountains that shelter the valley contain several vantage points and natural panoramic viewpoints that enable visitors to be astonished with various views. One of the most emblematic sites is the Arrayán vantage point, which features one of the best postcards of Lake Lácar and the town. In order to reach this spot, visitors must depart from the pier located on the waterfront and take Provincial Route 19, the detour on the left at the start of National Route 234. The paved road goes up the hill up to a bend where the former Sol de los Andes Hotel is located. Farther ahead, the road is made of gravel. The entrance to the Centenario Reserve and vantage point stands a few meters ahead. This is an ideal site for a picnic or to spend the afternoon.

Moving on along the road for one kilometer, the Arrayán vantage point is reached. It is properly signaled and there is a small footbridge to enjoy this natural balcony without any difficulties. The panoramic is simply impressive, with a delightful view of the Lácar mirror, the entire waterfront and the downtown area. After appreciating the beauty of the landscape, visitors may go back to town by continuing along the same road, which ends up in a junction with National Route 234 after passing through some thick forests and the Puente Blanco Mapuche community. The circuit may also be completed by bicycle and in fact it is usual to come across mountain biking fans, which use it to train due to its demanding slopes.
