At 150 km from San Julián on provincial route 77 is La María Archaeological Deposit, in an environment revealing the incredible geological revolutions suffered by Patagonia in the past. You can also access to this post fom Puerto Santa Cruz.
There you will enjoy not only the art but also the scenery with deep canyons, plateaus, rocky prominences constituted by sediment of volcanic explosions with colors and textures of a singular beauty.

The geography of the place gave origin to caves where there are 84 sites with testimnies of primitive art dating from 12.600 years ago that belonged to the Casapedrense culture. This unpublished drawings show hands, human figures, felines and abstract figures in hunting scenes of red, yellow, black and white colors. |
The deposit is inside Estancia La María, where you can see the characteristic farming activities of the area, and even stay overnight, since there is a camping site and lodging.
