Cerro Zeballos - Hiking
You can go on a very interesting outing to Cerro Zeballos, 2.743 m. high, with very good camping equipment, provisions, clothes and footwear.
South west of the plateaux of Lake Buenos Aites are the 900 has. of subantarctic forests where you can practise hiking.
During the first 30 km. you can drive your vehicle while you appreciate the beautiful vistas of the lake and mountains. After that, you can go on walking in and out of private lots where you must ask for the corresponding permit to open and close gateways.
It is advisable to ask for information in the local Tourism office, since the journey is worth the effort due to the surprising perspectives that it offers.
You can start hiking at the mirador of Jeinemeni river, then ascend and continue to km. 7 along a safe cornice road with a really surprising view. Chile is in front of you on your right, with its mountains and eroded rocks of curious shapes carved by wind and time called menhirs (Toscas Bayas).
Once you get to km. 30 either walking or by car you can see the deep Canyon of river Jeinemeni, with turquoise and reddish walls kissing the emerald blue waters of the river.
Then you meet again the vision of the longChilean mountain range with volcanic shapes resembling penitents and altars in a thousand tones that vary according to the degree of oxidation of its composing minerals.
From this point to Paso Fronterizo Zeballos and Lago Posadas, the road has a new tracing, so you can also travel by car. Along the way there are ñires and lengas, valuable trees of the Nothofagus family.
Soon you will find Río Zeballos, an affluent of the Jeinemeni. Cerro Aguila will be in front of you with its 2.045 m. height, and to the left, Cerro Zeballos.
