The presence of salmon as the main protagonist, in addition to the ancestral pastry, deserts and cake recipes brought along by the first German colonists, has generated a world of gourmet sensations which cannot be found in other Chilean areas and are typical of the Xth Region, widely known as the Lake District.
Govinda: A Site with a Light of Its Own |

“When Siddhartha left the grove, where the Buddha, the perfected one, stayed behind, where Govinda stayed behind, then he felt that in this grove his past life also stayed behind and parted from him. He pondered about this sensation, which filled him completely, as he was slowly walking along. He pondered deeply, like diving into a deep water he let himself sink down to the ground of the sensation, down to the place where the causes lie, because to identify the causes, so it seemed to him, is the very essence of thinking, and by this alone sensations turn into realizations and are not lost, but become entities and start to emit like rays of light what is inside of them.”
This is an excerpt from Siddharta, the mystic book by Herman Hesse. From this work, Govinda is born. This character has also inspired David, the owner of this delicate and spiritual restaurant where it is possible to get lost inside its walls and reach sites hard to be imagined, where only the soul can show the way. |

There, starters and wine glasses follow one another with unusual naturalness and harmony, creating the proper atmosphere for the arrival of the main courses. Krishan Prakash (which means “Guardian of the Lord of the Light”) along with his partner Har Charn (which means “Princess lying at the foot of God”) teach how to taste these delicacies, the result of years devoted to the practice of yoga and cooking. The house philosophy is to try and understand and live life in a different way. Eating well, simply because one knows what and how to eat.

We recommend that you enjoy a demi-sec pisco sour, the way you can only have it in Chile, while you wait for the dish you have chosen. When it comes to gourmet dishes, a traditional beef carpaccio with capers, Parmisan cheese and quinoa salad as a starter, or else, a cebiche of oysters aromatized with ginger over a cushion of asparagus and salad are highly recommended. A very good way to start a tasty evening.
As far as the main course is concerned, if you have chosen carpaccio, then the best thing is to follow with a venison stew aromatized with handbrewed dark beer in pine nut sauce, accompanied with pearl rice and sliced peppers sautèd in olive oil. An exquisite Chilean pinot noir is the perfect finale for these lean meat dishes.
If you have chosen the cebiche, then you must continue with a tasty breaded salmon, with fettuccini sautèd in pesto and grilled polenta sticks. In this case, the customer may choose either red or white wine, according to taste. |

Desserts at Mirador del Lago restaurant deserve a chapter of their own. This time, and to end the night with a touch of sweetness in your lips, there is nothing better than asking the waiter for an iced almond fantasy stuffed with chestnuts with raspberry cognac sauce, or else, the restaurant's star: a fine tiramisu with vanilla sauce, aromatized with mint.
If you have followed our instructions, you will only need to ask for a digestive and, among candles, laughter and a pleasant company, pay attention once more to the large windows that shyly spy on the “city of the roses” as it sleeps. |
