From Puerto Montt to the south, the Carretera Austral, 1.100 km long, surprises for the infinity of pristine natural resources. Leaving from the city of Cochrane to the north along route 7 and turning to the east in the first crossing, you get to Customs and Carabineros after 95 km. After you cross the pass and drive 90 km. more in Argentina, you take national route 40 that leads north to Perito Moreno, distant 118 km. The pass has an average temperature of : 4/25° C in summer, and -0/-25° C in winter. It is situated at 4.500 metres above sea level.
