The O'Brien Underwater Museum is a floating museum located in Valdivia, Chile. This Oberon class submarine was built in 1971 in Scotland on behalf of the Chilean Navy and arrived in Punta Arenas on August 10, 1976. After 25 years of service, it was decommissioned on December 31, 2001 and acquired by the Municipality of Valdivia to turn it into a museum.
Visitors can explore various areas of the submarine, including the sailors' cabins, engine room and armament areas, getting an authentic glimpse of life on board. It is one of three submarines in South America that function as museums and the second of the Oberon-class that remains afloat in the world.
