Ubicada sobre la Plaza de Castro en la Isla Grande, constituye el centro urbano desde donde se organizó la evangelización de la población del archipiélago. El Templo primitivo fue destruido por un incendio en 1902 y reconstruido en 1912. El actual diseño es obra del arquitecto italiano Eduardo Provasoli y su esquema responde a una mezcla entre el clásico y el neogótico sumado a la tradición constructiva local.

 

Castro is the urvan centre where the evangelization was first carried out among the aboriginal's communities by Fransiscans and jesuits priests on the archipielago of chiloé. The former temple was destroyed by a fire in 1902; the present church was finished in 1912. The work has some diferences and some simiralities with the tradition in Chiloé. Its desing belongs to the Italian architect Eduardo Provasoli. He mixes a Neo-Gotic with a clasic desing that goes together with a local costuction tradition.
