Río Grande How to get there

From Río Gallegos along national route 3, there are 68 km. to the south (15 km. paved, and 53 km. unpaved) until Paso de Integración Austral, the border with Chile, where you must present the corresponding documents. At this pont you access to Chile, drive 43 km. on a paved narrow route called national route 255 in Chile until the crossroad with national route 257 in Chile to Punta Delgada (15 km. paved). At this point, known as Primera Angostura, there is a transshipping to cross the Strait of Magellan and disembark in Bahía Azul in the coast of Tierra del Fuego.
It is advisable to consult for the timetables of the transshiping and the interuption of the service for the low tide. From that point there are 148 unpaved kilometres to Paso San Sebastián, where you cross to República Argentina. Finally there are 81 paved kilometres along national route 3 to the city of Río Grande.
Public transport: there is no public service between the two cities, but there is between Río Gallegos and Punta Arenas (Chile) and between this last one and Río Grande.

From Ushuaia along national route 3, there ARE 222 km.; 25 km. paved and the rest unpaved until Tolhuin and 107 km paved to the city of Río Grande.

From Punta Arenas (Chile) along national route 225 (Chile), 168 km. paved until the crossroad of national route 257 (Chile) to Punta Delgada (15 km. paved). Coming from Camerón on the coast of Bahia Inutil, crossing Tierra del Fuego at 34 km from this village, you access to Argentina through Paso Rio Bella Vista that leads to Río Grande on the Atlantic coast, distant 82 km. through complementary provincial route "B" .

Paso Integración Austral-CRUCE DEL ESTRECHO DE MAGALLANES

Daily outings from Punta Delgada, on the continent , every hour and a half from 8,30 hs in the morning, with a capacity for 70 vehicles. The crossing takes 30 minutos and arrives at Tierra del Fuego in Bahia Azul.
